A 4th to Remember

Well, I see it's been about a month since I've written a post for you all...it's been a bit of a whirl wind month with deadlines, a bout with croup, etc., etc. But before I catch you up with all of those stories and photos, I want to share a few pictures from our 4th of July.

Now, we didn't make it to the traditional fire works in the park...although we did do a little playing with matches!! (giggle)
And we did have a few brief moments of rest and relaxation...
...but, most of our weekend was focused around the grand opening of Wes and Annie's new antiqueing business, "Pack Rat Collections." They laugh and call it their bad habit. I think it probably runs in the blood, but both Annie and Wes have a blast scrounging around at garage sales, spending their Satrdays at local auctions, and hanging out with the quality folks at Sharpless every Wednesday evening just to find the perfect item at the perfect price. This past year they've been collecting those special finds and pack ratting them for the annual 4th of July sale on main street Mt. Vernon.
Their booth consisted of a space 10' x 40' long, which they filled with NO problem at all. Equipped with a giant new tent, displays made from misc lumber and finds in the garage, and a sign from our old bathroom paneling, these two made quite a showing for their first go around!! Above they are looking bright and chipper at about 5:45 in the morning!! :)
Everything was tweaked and refined and ready to go when the early birds started arriving at around 7am. Actually, the real early birds started showing up the evening before when we were still hauling out rubber maids from the trailer. These guys were making sales even before the sale had started!!
One of their "famous" customers was Dan Bean who was on one of the shows from the first season of American Pickers...he's in this episode and is an older man in Key bibs at around the 30 min. mark (the third little square at the bottom of the video). But they both agreed that their favorite sale was to a teenage girl buying her first antique. She was about in tears when she loaded up an old pedal run sewing machine from their booth. :)
Here they are at the end of the day, congradulating eachother on an awesome beginning to their new business adventure. Congratulations you guys!!
