Iowa State Fair 2009

The State Fair this year was like every other year...the best!!
Grandpa Terry came over Friday evening. We had a nice time just hanging out. Doing a few small jobs around the house, but mostly just having fun. Aiden and Grandpa made some ice cream to go with the fresh Colorado peaches we picked up on Saturday (more about canning those later).

Saturday night we grilled and had Iowa corn on the cob. Aiden was so serious about eating his corn, and he did a pretty good job of it too.

Sunday morning we woke up at the crack of dawn and headed West. It rained on us a good chunk of the ride over and we all thought we'd be running from building to building. But it turned out to be a very nice day and the ominous clouds kind of kept the crowds away at least during the morning. Here is Jude bear at his first state fair, ticket in hand. No excitement showing at all. wink, wink :)

And definitely no excitement here. :) Actually Aiden couldn't stop talking about going to the fair all week. Every day I swear I would have to tell him at least twice that we weren't going to the fair until the weekend. Waiting is such a hard thing to do when you're three.

The chicken barn was the first that we went into and Aiden was totally into it. Very serious. Checking out all of the chickens, making comments...so excited his hands were rubbing together with all of his extra energy.

Here's our little guys together at the fair.

And here's the rest of us (minus Wes who's taking the photo). Breakfast down by the horse barn.

There are always tractors and bobcats to be tested...in truth, every single bobcat had to be tested.

Here we are getting ready to go on the Ye Old Mill boat ride. It got absolutely pitch black in parts of this ride and I was a bit nervous about how Aiden would do. He made it, although I think he scooched pretty close to Grandma. This ride has been at the state fair for ever. I've only been on it one other time. Mom remembers going on this ride when she and her siblings were little...isn't that awesome!!
Classic photo - kind of funny that Wes is the drum stick. :)
And always the tired eyes at the end of the day. Sweet, sweet baby Jude.
