Back from vacation

Our trip to Colorado was a big success and so much fun! This was the first of this type of vacation for the Cosaert clan, ie. no agenda, list of places to see or items to check off our list. It was a carefree, nothing planned time out in the wilds of Colorado. And when I say the wilds that's exactly what I mean...it's like we had our own little nook in the world...literally. It took us about 25 minutes to get to the closest grocery store. We stayed at the Gerdin ranch, and although we were out in the middle of nowhere...we weren't roughing it AT ALL!! The ranch was a beautiful, big log 'cabin' with 6 bedrooms, a huge kitchen, big living room with a view to beat all, pool table, steam showers, hot tub, etc, etc. We took turns cooking breakfast and dinners (lunches were usually grabbing left overs), we fished, rode the 4 wheelers, went for hikes, and even did a little shopping our last day.
On the first day of fun everyone except for Aiden and I went on a 9 mile 4-wheeler ride around the ranch. They came back covered with dust and raving about how much fun it was!! The next day Aiden and I got to join the fun and rode behind the crew in the airconditioned suburban...roughing it, I know. :) It was wonderful to be able to see some of the countryside that they all got to experience. Our intention was to picnic by a small stream in a valley that looked like was once home to a family in a one room log cabin. It was a beautiful spot!! The boys did a little fishing. Ankur showed Wes how to fly fish. This was Wes' rock star fishing day...he caught about 5 of these prize winners!! And the rest of us sat by the stream, threw rocks and just enjoyed being out in the quiet. Don't get me wrong though...there was some excitement. Aiden did some bear tackling!!
Actually there is a little story behind this photo. When we were touring the house when we first arrived at the ranch, this bear kind of frightened little man. So now you can see we mastered our fears. We did see bears though!! One night just before the sun was going down we spotted 3 bears and watched them walk around the fishing pond for about an hour. Wes will tell you the story of how I thought the first one was a beaver. But don't you let him get you laughing!! I thought this was a very logical conclusion for a brown fuzzy critter, walking on all fours next to a pond. Much more reasonable than a kangaroo along the roadside in Iowa!! :) We also saw a moose down by the pond one morning, and a mama dear with two babies along the drive into the ranch. Several humming birds visited our kitchen window and there were tons of beautiful wild flowers to pick.
Overall it was a great, relaxing vacation!!
Here is a link to the photos I took on my camera. LINK I will share the photos on Mom and Corrinn's camera when I get them!!
